The Pipeliners Club of Oklahoma City welcomes Tom Poteet, as our guest speaker on Tuesday February 12, 2019.
Tom Poteet is the Chief Technology Officer of Mesa Natural Gas Solutions. Tom’s purview in this role includes characterizing and casting the vision for the optimal use of natural gas powered generation, monitoring the innovation stream for future sources of site power, and development of customized rate plans and progressive field applications to meet customers' needs and financial preferences. With over 30 years in engineering, Tom’s career has given him experience in electric power, telecommunications, and oil field production. Tom graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering
Tom will speak on the title: "The New Economics of On-site Power".
In recent years, on-site power generation costs have declined for both direct and time-valued cost model scenarios. Previously, electricity sourcing decisions were often made with the presumption that the cost of utility provided power was substantially lower than any on-site solution. The emergence of genset engines than can run on unrefined gas, along with production lease agreements that permit the use of produced gas for lease power requirements, have created a situation in which on-site generation costs are often lower than utility costs. In addition, the consumption of produced gas by on-site generators provides a much cleaner environmental output compared to typical flaring methods, so there are cases where natural gas generation enables production by virtue of improving overall emissions.
The presentation will characterize comparisons of utility and on-site generator costs for simple head-to-head per unit costs as well as net present value models that take into consideration the up front capital costs that are usually associated with building privately owned or utility owned electric distribution facilities. The characterizations will represent utility cost components and on-site generator cost components in an apples-to-apples fashion. Utility costs as a function of region and on-site generator costs as a function of fuel prices and rental rates will be discussed.
The scalability and reliability of power sources will be reviewed in light of operational effects and economics.
The meeting will be held at Quail Creek Golf and Country Club with a social hour beginning at 5:15PM, followed by dinner at 6:30PM.

Reserved Full Table Sponsorships
Reserved Full Table Sponsorships are also available for your company to sponsor eight people per table and as many tables as you'd like to sponsor. These sponsorships are $300.00 per table. In addition to the eight meeting guests per table, your company logo will be displayed at the table.
Reserved Half Table Sponsorships
Reserved Half Table Sponsorships are also available for your company to sponsor up to four people per table. These sponsorships are $175.00 per half table. In addition to the four meeting guests per table, your company will receive recognition in the meeting.
Note: If this is your first time to sponsor a table, you will need to email your full-color company logo in a high resolution format (PDF, PNG or JPG) to our Treasurer Adrienne Mains (Treasurer@OKCPipeliners.com) by Noon the day before the meeting.This logo needs to look good when printed on 8½" x 11" paper. Also, please include your list of guests in that email. If you do not have that list at the time of emailing it, you can send it as soon as you have it. Your guests will need to mention the sponsoring person or organization at check in when they arrive.
